Shawn Stewart Camps is the CEO of PrimeLabs Testing and Screening, LLC located at 454 Anderson Rd S, Rock Hill, SC 29730 providing Testing Laboratories and Services, Collection Agencies, Office Administrative Services, and Other Miscellaneous Ambulatory Health Care services. After becoming aware of SC APEX Accelerator when attending an event, Shawn became a client to receive assistance with government contracts and becoming certified. Shawn began working with program manager Ron Conner to review solicitations within their company’s wheelhouse.

“Ron has been great. He’s someone who loves what he does and there is no fluff – being able to provide information in a way that I can understand. Meeting with Ron on a bi-weekly basis has given me what I needed.”

Expecting to find contracts and receive assistance on how to bid on those opportunities as well as what is needed to be a competitor, SC APEX Accelerator assistance has exceeded Shawn’s expectations. As a DBE certified business, PrimeLabs Testing and Screening received a contract with Greenville-Spartanburg Airport to provide drug and alcohol testing.

When asked to give advice to businesses interested in government contracting, Shawn had this to say, “You cannot look at government contracting as a hobby or something to pass time. You must be willing to put in the work, and you can’t expect people to do more than you are willing to do for yourself. When someone is giving you instructions and directions, take it and follow through. Also, don’t be afraid to follow up. People are busy and things happen. Keep going.”

“I learned about APEX or found out through the Winthrop University Small Business Development Center. One thing I wanted help with when I first started was understanding more about government contracting. [Ashley] recommended that I start at the state level since being a new business. We also looked at different certifications such state and local, enhancing my capabilities statement, and how to search for solicitations.

When I first started [in government contracting] I was very overwhelmed about where to start, Ashley helped me to narrow down what services I wanted to provide and how I can use my experience in different areas. The process hasn’t been overnight, however, as of August 1^st, I have won my first award.”
